Karusa not only produces fine wine, but is also credited by pioneering the first full grain microbrewery in the Klein Karoo.
With the seasonality of the winemaking process, it gave way for time and space to produce craft beer for the big volume of European tourists that flock to Oudtshoorn. The soft fresh and unpolluted water from the Swartberg catchment area proved to be perfect for clean, clinical, fruit driven and refreshing styles of Ale produced at Karusa.
The extreme heat of Oudtshoorn’s summer is the perfect time to quench your thirst with our Long Neck Blonde session beer; kicking back with a Karoo Tapas platter. For a more serious complex ale, try our Premium Draught ~ The Karusa Zwartberger. And for the cold Karoo winters there is nothing more satisfying than our espresso infused chocolate stout called The Caveman’s Dry Stout ~ perfect in front of our fireplace at the tasting facility.

Karusa Craft Beer
Our beers are bottle conditioned and alive ~ thus fermenting in the bottle to obtain the “bubble”. Please keep the bottle upright and in the fridge.
Craft beer drinkers do NOT drink beer from the bottle ~ decant slowly into an appropriate glass leaving the last 5-10ml of yeast sediment in the bottle.
No preservatives ~ no sterile filtration ~ no pasteurization ~ natural as nature intended.
